Task
To surf to other Pokemon sites across the world to help find the best online pokedex on the web.

The participants searched the Internet and helped us make a list of all of the best online pokedexes in the world. During the first week (June 11-June 19 those who participated, surfed Pokemon websites to find their choices of up to 3 websites who they think should win the best online pokedex award for 2002. Those people sent us their list of site addresses for us to look over, then we are adding them to Gengar's list. Now that the submitions are all in, Gengar will be rating the sites that were sent in and the top 10 sites will then be added to a poll. All the site's visitors were then able to pick which pokedex was their favorite. That went on for one week. The poll results were private until the end, to make it more fair. The poll closed on June 29 @ 23:59 CDT and the results was displayed on June 30th.

Here are the rules we went by:

Contest Rules

  1. No Hentai/porn in site or links from site. The site containing Pokedex must not contain any hentai/porn or links to hentai/porn. Most of our participants are too young to be going to these types of sites. If any of these sites are found, they will not be added to Gengar's list.
  2. Participants may choose to submit own site. The sites you submit can include your own site.
  3. Our site will already be part of the list. Of course, you can not submit our site since we of course know we have a pokedex.
  4. Pokedexes must be original to be qualified. There are some sites out there who are using our pokedex for their own site, some with permission, others without. These site aren't qualified because the pokedexes must be original.
  5. There is a limit of 3 sites per participant. We would probably get hundreds of requests for sites if we didn't have this limit. If someone does send us more than 3 sites, then the last three listed will be counted. We will be keeping track of all the email addresses we get to watch this limit. But don't worry, your email addresses will only be used for the purpose of this contest. After the contest, your email address will be removed from our database.
  6. Please make your choices wisely. Base your choices/votes on the quality, layout, overall appearance, completion, amount of info (including too little or too much), ease of use, accuracy, etc. See below for complete list of what we will be looking at. Note that we will be checking all these in rating the pokedexes ourselves.
  7. Submit links directly to first page of pokedex (pokedex home). For example, we don't want www.pokemondungeon.com, we want www.pokemondungeon.com/pokedex.htm. This will make it easier to rate and vote. Some sites may be in frames and only show the main url, in cases like this it would be okay to send us the site's homepage link.
  8. Other languages are allowed. You are allowed submit sites that aren't in English.
  9. Remember to keep in mind that most of our visitors are under 17. If all possible, find sites that don't use rated "R" language. The site can have a few instances, but if there is too much, it will be removed from our list. We will be using this as a factor to subtract rating points if it is real bad language. This rule could change but as for now they are ok.
  10. No warez or other illegal sites will be permitted. That goes for sites that link or advertise for illegal sites as well.
  11. Spammers will be disqualified.
  12. I may add more rules later as they are needed.

Prizes
We gave special prizes to all those who participated during the submitions. Each participant was able to download an exclusive GHPD wallpaper made by Gengar himself during one of his high school computer courses last year. The wallpaper has never been released to the public before this and will only be available during special contests such as this one. The participants that finds one of the top pokedexes will get special recognition as well as the wallpaper. The owners of the winning pokedexes will also get the wallpaper, plus an award to put on their site displaying that they won the GHPD's Pokedex Contest 2002 made by us. Awards and wallpapers was given out after the contest was finished (June 30th).

Contest Dates
Submitting Days: June 11 - June 19
Rating Days: June 20 and June 21 (Only Gengar rated)
Voting Days: June 22 - June 29
Results were shown and prizes were sent on June 30.

What we rated:
Below are the different things we rated at each pokedex. We used a 10 point rating system. Each of aspect had 10 points possible. We then totaled all the points up. The top sites went on to the voting stage of the contest. There was a total of 100 points possible.

Completion- How much of the pokedex is done? Points will be figured with special formula. (Pokemon Done / 251) x 10. Figures will be rounded down to nearest point. That means to get any points in this aspect, at least 26 pokemon are needed to get one point.
Layout- How is the information presented? Is it original?
Popups (Ads)- Is the number of popups/ads too much? 2 points will be deducted for each popup. Popups that aren't ads will not be counted against.
Appearance- How good do the colors go together? Is it easy to read the text?
Pictures- Does the pokedex have pokemon pictures? Do they load?
Information- Is there enough information to be a real pokedex? (no pokemon lists with only its numbers) Is information useful?
Ease of Use- How easy is it to use?
Navigation- Is there a way to navigate to links without use of back button?
Accuracy- Is the information accurate? Three random pokemon will be chosen and checked for accuracy when we rate them.
Load Speed- Is the speed of three random pokemon pages, slow, normal, or fast on a 56K modem?
